Phangan or Koh Phangan as it is known is situated in the Surat Thani province. It is a part of the forty islands, which is also known as the Samui Archipelago. Phangan Island has got its name from a Thai word “Ngan”, which stands for sand bars. This is because there are plenty of sand bars that surround the island and according to the locals protect the people of the island from damages caused by the monsoon rains and the storms.
